7 Night Tour of Southern Ireland

Day 1
Route: Depart Dublin and travel to Athlone
Journey Time: 1.25 hours / 1.5 hours

Day one takes you from Dublin to Athlone. Athlone is a historic town and there is plenty of evidence of this. Athlone is also a very important crossing point for the River Shannon. The river flows through the centre of the town and the banks provide great moorings for the river cruisers.

Day 2 & 3
Route: Leave Athlone and travel to Galway
Journey Time: 1.5 hours / 1.75 hours

Galway is a great place to visit during any trip to Ireland. This historic city has a lot to offer apart from its character and charm. The city is steeped in history and there is a lot to see and do here. While you have the car, you could spend some time exploring the beautiful and scenic County of Galway. A trip down to see the cliffs of Moher and the Burren would be well worth while.

Day 4&5
Route: From Galway to Westport
Journey Time: 1.5 hours / 2 hours

Westport is situated on the edge of the beautiful Clew Bay on the West coast of Ireland. This town has always been associated with Croagh Patrick which is situated only 10km away. Each year hundreds of people climb the mountain as a pilgrimage. Westport is a major tourist attraction for several reasons, among which is the stunning scenery that surrounds. On your way from Galway to Westport make sure to take in some of the beautiful scenery along the way.

Day 6
Route: From Westport to Carrick on Shannon
Journey Time: 1 hour / 1.5 hours

As you start to drive back towards Dublin, you will again be crossing the Shannon, but this time about 40km further north at Carrick on Shannon. Carrick on Shannon is a significant town with some great views of the River Shannon. The town is full of character and it is really worth your while spending some time walking around the main streets.

Day 7
Route: From Carrick on Shannon to Dublin
Journey Time: 1.5 hours / 2 hours

A straight forward journey back to Dublin…
