Chip and Pin Credit Cards

From March 17 2007 customers who have a Chip and Pin credit card will need to use their PIN number to complete the transaction. Transactions with Chip and Pin credit cards will no longer be able to be completed without the use of the PIN. This change does not affect customers who have credit cards without a Chip and Pin.

The Chip and Pin is a new and more secure way to complete credit card transaction, and will help prevent you from credit card fraud. The roll out of the chip and pin cards in ireland is almost complete and over 94% of credit and debit card transactions in Ireland are now completed using Chip and Pin.

We strongly recommend that customers who wish to use their Chip and PIN MasterCard or Visa in from March 17th ensure they know their PIN before they wish to make a transaction as it will no longer be possible for us to generate a receipt for customers to sign. Please contact your card provider if you are in any doubt if your card is PIN and Chip or if you need assistance in finding your PIN number. For security please do not disclose your PIN number to anyone.
